SHOP-A-PAW-LOOZA 2015

How did Shop-a-paw-looza 2015 end up?

Funny you should ask.

WE RAISED MORE THAN $12,000! (Sorry, but that totally deserved all-caps!) TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLARS for the 600+ cats and dogs who come through our doors each year. That's a new record for us, the most we've ever raised in a single auction, and we couldn't be more excited and grateful to everyone who contributed.

We'd just like to say a sincere thank you to everyone who donated – local, and as far away as Toronto, New York City and Florida. We know that times are hard; we know that donations aren't easy to make, which is why we appreciate them so, so much.

Thanks also to all the people who bid on these items. You guys were AWESOME! So generous! So much FUN! It was like being at a three day party! And thanks to everyone at the Humane Society who worked double-time to make this event a success. So thank you. We mean it. When you snuggle up with your own cat or dog tonight, you can feel proud of yourself for making a difference in the lives of animals who aren't as lucky. Love to you all!

Stay tuned to the Lakeland Humane Society's Facebook page for next year's auction!

TINTA DE LA LUNA CUSTOM TATTOOS & ART

TINTA DE LA LUNA TATTOO. The Humane Society has so many really wonderful supporters and Sarah Pequegnat, owner of Tinta De La Luna Custom Tattoos & Art, is definitely one of them. As well as donating some amazing henna work to our upcoming Gala (“Escape to India,” Feb. 6 at the Energy Centre - tickets are on sale now at the shelter - you won’t believe how awesome Sarah’s work will be for that!), Sarah has donated $120 worth of tattoo services for this auction! Tinta De La Luna, or “Ink of the Moon,” was established in 2012 and has provided hundreds of clients with quality custom artwork and tattoos. Originality is important, not only do they want you to get exactly the tattoo that you came in for but they encourage you to let them draw a custom stencil made just for you. Nobody wants their tattoo to fade after they're healed. They do what we can to avoid this by using high quality supplies such as "Intenze" ink and "Tatuderm" bandages from authorized dealers. Your safety is priority, so all of their needles and grips are disposable. All non-disposable equipment is covered and everything is sanitized by hospital grade cleaners. Their studio is and always has been certified by Alberta Health. For more info, visit Tinta De La Luna at 901 10 St., Cold Lake, or visit Sarah’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TintaDeLaLuna/ or her website: http://www.inkofthemoon.com/

NIGEL HOOD - GHOST TOWNS IN WHITE

GHOST TOWNS OF ALBERTA POSTER IN WHITE. Edmonton artist Nigel Hood donated THREE of his amazing posters to our Online Auction. Two of them feature the ghost towns of Alberta. “Ghost towns,” he says, “are towns that once had a considerable population, that have since dwindled in numbers causing some or all its businesses to close. The reasons? Either due to the rerouting of a highway, train tracks being pulled, or exhaustion of a natural resource.” Many of Alberta’s ghost towns exist as a result of a number of failed coal mining operations in the area during the early 20th century. This 15” x 22” screen print, in white, pays homage to those towns. It features 80 logos, crests, symbols and word marks created for these fallen towns over the course of 80 days. (A black version of this print will also be sold in this online auction.) The print is unframed, allowing you to frame it the way you want. It will look amazing matted and framed, and hung in an Alberta family room or living room. A perfect gift for anyone interested in the history of our great province. Printed on a white Stonehenge rag by the good people at Hard Pressed, this item sells for $40 in Nigel’s Etsy shop. To see more of Nigel’s work, visit: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/NigelHood. Thanks Nigel!

Her own cats include Anakin, “Prince of Handsomeness,” who was born without back legs or a pelvis. “That doesn’t stop him,” Carrie says. “He is full of love and life! My family and I rescued Anakin and we are giving him the best possible home, love and care.” Carrie posts updates, photos and videos of Anakin on his Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/AnakinTheTwoLeggedCat.
